The Australian Curriculum describes the general capability of literacy as "encompassing the knowledge and skills students need to access, understand, analyse and evaluate information, make meaning, express thoughts and emotions, present ideas and opinions, interact with others and participate in activities. This resource requires students to self-monitor and manage their own learning, work with others, and repeat tasks with the intention of attaining mastery; while "using language for specific contexts and purposes, and listening to, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating oral, print, visual and digital texts" (ACARA, 2015).

Within the English curriculum for years 3 and 4, this webquest develops student knowledge and skills with text structure and organisation, interact with others to share information, and create texts using software; thereby developing their language and literacy skills and addressing content descriptors of the Australian Curriculum: English framework as listed.

Year 3: ACELA1475; ACELY1677; ACELY1685
Year 4: ACELA1498; ACELY1692; ACELY1697
Numeracy as a general capability is described within the Australian Curriculum v.8.1. as being able to use mathematical skills across learning areas and generally in their lives. Numerate students purposefully use mathematics skills for a range of purposes and within diverse contexts, and understand the interconnected nature of mathematics (ACARA, 2015).

This learning resource provides students with the opportunity to engage deeply with data representation and interpretation not just as a mathematical skill, but as a relevant tool for communication and meaning making, enhancing understandings of mathematical and technologies concepts simultaneously in a genuine, meaningful context. Click the below content descriptors for further detail regarding addressing the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics syllabus.
